How can i measure ammonia with no kit?
I've been to about any pet store i know and none has any idea on where to find ammonia measurement kits. Also, I live in Venezuela so online shopping isn't really an option. Are there any homemade methods for measuring ammonia?

No, sorry! But - you can shop online. You can buy from Petsmart.com , they have cheap prices!! This is a USA/Canada based store. Here's an ammonia testing kit: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754002

Check any pool supply stores, they often have the test kits. Also, for DIY reference, the two reagents common to most test kits are Nessler's Reagent (test kits with red/amber charts) and Salicylate Reagent (test kits with green/blue charts). You can sometimes find Nessler's Reagent in pharmacies or other places where one would expect some chemical compounds (university, advanced chemistry stores, etc). If you can find the compound/reagent, you can assemble your own kit. You'll likely have better time finding Nessler's, and if it changes to any shade of red, that is a bad sign. Also, ammonia will give an odor. As always, when in doubt, change water.
