I am a 42 year old British man living in Venezuela. Lost my home and my job. Can I get any welfare in England?
I am a 42 year old British man living in Venezuela. Lost my job, home, can I get any compensantion in the UK?? Thing is I was paying a house credit. But recently the Venezuelan government intervened / took over the bank I was paying too for a home, and somehow this means that I lost said home too (bank property which is now government property). Government said they don't recognize any of my payments. At about the same time I also lost my job because I had to take care of animals in a farm south of Yaracuy (a Venezuelan region) because the farm was also seized by the government for some reason. Long story short, I am 42 years old, lost my job, my home, and pretty much have no money and have got pretty much nothing. My mother is from England and I have the English nationality. I want to go live in England but problem is I have NOTHING in life now. Can I expect to receive any monetary compensation or welfare or something in England so I can get on my foot again????

If you mean Britain and the British DWP (Dept of work and pensions) then the bad news is that you have not paid any tax or "contributions" so you cannot claim any help. Sorry mate.

You'll need to check with the British Embassy if you can borrow, but you should phone them to get help regardless. British Embassy Torre La Castellana, Piso 11 Avenida La Principal de la Castellana (Av. Eugenio Mendoza) La Castellana Caracas 1061 Switchboard: +58 (0) 212 263-8411 You cannot claim any benefits until you are on British soil again I'm afraid.
