Do the Warao Indians of Venezuela believe in the legend of the Boto who becomes human and seduces young women?
The boto is the Amazon River Dolphin, which is indigenous to the Amazon and Orinoco river basins, according to my (online) research. My research indicates that belief in the boto becoming human and seducing young women is common in the region, especially among the aboriginal people (in general). The Warao live on the delta of the Orinoco, so the two should go together, but I have been unable to find anything online specifically linking the two.

I have been unable to find a direct connection either, I'm sorry to say. However, these poems do speak an awful lot of monsters/spirits/etc assuming human form.
