I don't know Barquisimeto but, in general, it's fairly comfortable, though you will need to purify water, can't count on electricity all the time, or water pressure, may experience strikes or other unrest. I'm not wild about the fairly bland food, but the fruit is incredible.

Venezuela is going right now through period of great changes. Basically life is not that different from the USA. Temperature pretty much the same all year round. Some very rainy months. Never snows. Barquisimeto nice city. Many modern houses and buildings. Reminds some people of the dryer parts of the western USA. You will like Barquiisimeto and will find the life very comparable to the USA

problem is you can't trust buying ice cream or popsicles from street venders. life is cheaper but everything is not right, its like buying discounted things at a charity shop

It depends on the social status, Venezuela and latinamerica in general has one of the most pronounced economical inequalities in the world, you will find a comfortable lifestyle in the richest and middle class areas of big cities like Barquisimeto, and a hard life in the shanty towns. And also the income, but what I can tell you for sure is, that the lifestyle of the venezuelans have changed for better, and its going better.

You are comparing the most powerful country in the world (US) against a third world country (Venezuela) with one of the highest crime rates in Latin America, a huge percentage of people still living in poverty, deep corruption at all levels in government agencies, the highest inflation rate in the world (30% annual inflation rate), dirty streets, homeless people collecting pop cans to make a living, political instability as opposition parties and the socialist ruling party are always fighting each other, a society that is divided by those who support the ruling and the opposition parties, foreign currency exchange control (wire transfers are not easy due to this), shortage of water supply, light blackouts, etc. Honestly, I don't recommend you coming to Venezuela, go and spend your dollars to some exotic and safer destination. Don't put your life at risk by coming to such unstable and unsafe country.
