Should I give birth in Venezuela or the USA?
I am a US Citizen. My husband is a US Permanent Resident; however, we have been living in Venezuela for the past two years. We go to the States about 3-4 times a year (as all of my family is there.) I just found out I am pregnant and I am unsure as to have the baby in Venezuela (where I currently live, my 2 year hold has his pre-school (also a US citizen) I have a set nanny, etc. or go to my mother's houes in Cape Coral, FL (where i had my son) to have this baby. I have done some research, that the baby can still be a US Citizen although born in Venezuela but I am worried about his/her legal ties to Venezuela (considering the current government status.) Help please! I need some good advice!

as long as your baby is a US citizen, everything else doesn't matter.

Compromise. Have him in the US, but name him "Hugo".

With current Political issues and such it's just better to have the baby in the US. IS there any specific reason that you don't live in the US? If I were you, I'd stick with what I know, no need to make things harry!

Give birth in USA otherwise the paperwork to get US citizenship is very time consuming and expensive

Your last few lines already made up my mind. Have the child in the U.S. The care your child will get in case of complications are far better in the U.S.

I think you should have the baby in venezuela.that would be really cool. just think when the baby gets older you can tell him or her and who can actually say they were born in venezuela but a U.S citizen.

If you want your child to be a us citizen then have it in the us but if you would want it to be Venezuelan then have to come to the us and stay here for a couple years before he can become an official us citizen....BTW I have been to Venezuela twice for missionary work and loved every minute of it i am planning on going back this summer i love Venezuela hope you come to a good decision for your child - Best of luck

The U.S! I am Venezuelan and let me tell you that Chavez plans to make all the children state's children, this means that the government would take care of all children ( this means obligated military service), besides if you live here you should have noticed that peace and rights here won't last for very long. If everything goes right I'll be leaving this country on June, I would recommend you to have that baby on the U.S! Good Luck!

If the baby is going to still be a U.S. Citizen even if born in Venezuela I would say Venezuela because that is actually a really cool thing to be born in Venezuela but if there are doubts for the baby's safety in Venezuela definitely go to the U.S.

I know I should have read through the other answers first, so maybe I'm repeating what has already been said...but here it goes anyways. (Appologies for repetition.) My uncle is a US citizen, he married a woman from Venezuela. They had a son, born in Venezuela. The situation is different, I know, because the mom was not a US citizen, but they have had nothing but grief from the government concerning the baby, and the mom, coming to America. The drove five hours to the capital, only to be told that my aunt had to see the politicians by herself, without any uncle. In any event, Hugo Chavez "claimed" their son on the birth certificate. Despite the fact that they went through channels to try and ensure the baby would be a US citizen. Chavez, apparently, makes all babies born in Venezuela property of the state. I wouldn't take the chance. If you have the option to have your child in America, definitely try. At least you know for sure he'll be a US citizen with all the rights he/she deserves.
